Ever since my childhood days in Tel Aviv, I’ve been a devoted admirer and consumer of all things beauty and style. I love noticing color – hair, clothing, jewelry – during my travels, reading about a new facial treatment in my beloved beauty mags, and talking to industry friends about the latest in the beauty world. 2008 is shaping up to be another year filled with ways to enhance and enrich your inner & outer beauty. For me, the two are tied together – feeling and looking good positively affects every aspect of our lives. Below is a collection of hot beauty tips & trends for the coming year and where to experience them locally. Have fun, stay healthy, and keep looking great!

Warm Colors & Hot Cuts
One of the easiest ways to combat the effects of aging is to introduce color to your hair regimen. When winter approaches and the sun slips away, our eye craves deep and warm tones. These tones, especially when applied as ribbons to your base color canvas, continue to be popular. Red tones are eye-catching and skin enhancing – they pop in elegant and bold ways – think Kate Walsh from Private Practice. The golden cognac and honey tones seen on J. Lo and Eva Mendes are warm and delicious – a side benefit is the healthy, sun-kissed effect they have on the skin. Using a color enhancing shampoo and conditioner will prevent fading and make color last between appointments.

Runway Hair Is moving from slick & straight and towards volumnizing textures with soft finishes. Shorter hairstyles have made a comeback. These looks are sexy and sharp -- think the Victoria Beckham Bob.

Rich Minerals & Colorful Shades
Mineral makeup is all the rage for its health and anti-aging benefits. It’s made of pure crushed minerals and free of preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance, and skin irritants. This fall, we introduced b.yoffi, our line of mineral makeup. There are some definite trends in makeup color – we’re seeing lots of light pink lips for blondes and strong reds & berry lips for brunettes. Smoky eyes continue to be hot, but with an emphasis on plum and lavender shades.

Delicious Food
I don’t know about all of you, but one of my favorite styles of cuisine is Asian. At last count, I think I have eaten at over 100 different Chinese restaurants. As a matter of fact, Bill and I celebrate our engagement date every New Year’s Eve at an Asian restaurant. It has been quite a tradition for us over the past 20 years. My latest discovery in my continued pursuit of great Chinese is the new restaurant in Hanover called Tsang Village Café. I think it’s the Best Chinese on the South Shore. There is no MSG used and a great selection of tasty dishes. Try the Shrimp Mandarin, delicious house fried rice and wonderful Hong Kong Noodles. They also serve sushi, which is very fresh. Try one of my favorites, Japanese Avocado Salad Seafood and Avocado Yam. Delish! The service is very pleasant and the martinis go down smoothly.

Starting nightly in February, 53 South will be delivering a selection of their wonderful tapas for Maxime guests to sample while at the salon.
